Cosplay is the term that Japan used to shorten the words Costume and Play. That is exactly what they meant by it. It meant to dress like who you want and play like you are that character. It’s meant for fun and is usually done in conventions or in certain areas. The part that aggravates me are people that say that cosplay is creating a costume from scratch. That would be costume making, not playing. Don’t let people tell you who you can or cannot be. If you want to dress up and be that character you do not have to make the costume from scratch. Cosplay is a hobby and as so, you’re entitled to spend what you want and do what you want with it. Don’t let anyone tell you that if you did not make that costume that you are not cosplaying. Those people clearly don’t understand the term, “CosPlay, (costume play)”.
This is now the 11th year of being a website and media outlet for cosplay and conventions. Most viewers are new to the site and might not know who we are, where we came from and what we do. So, here is the short history of why Cosplay Media exists today:
After the 2013 San Diego Comic-Con, this marks my 11th year covering conventions. In those years I’ve seen a ton of things I’m not too fond of between the photographers/ videographers and the cosplayers. This is just a personal list of my do and don’t of cosplay/ covnention coverage.
We’ve made it easier to reach us and view our profiles on other sites. We have also renamed our facebook page to https://www.facebook.com/officialcosplaymedia to make it easier to locate. Links are located at the top of this page, underneath the cosplay media logo. These are to our deviantART, Facebook, Model Mayhem, (for scheduling photo shoots) cosplay photographers network and out cosplay.com account. If you ever need to contact us, send us a facebook message. It’s the easiest way for us to keep in touch with those of you looking for your photos.
The site will change from a coppermine photo gallery to an adobe generated gallery in July. This will make the site more fluid and keep the same theme across from the word press section to the gallery.
The biggest complaint I get is that the gallery doesn’t function well, so here is a sample of what the gallery will look and function like http://cosplaymedia.com/gallery/animela2013/
For a direct link to our entire photo gallery, featuring over 900 cosplay photographs from conventions like San Diego Comic-Con, Anime Expo, Fanime and more. We hope to bring a much easier interface between our news site and photo album as soon as possible, but in the meantime, please use the link to gain access to our photo gallery.
Originally formed in May 2002, the Cosplay Media site has been updated and remade from the ground up. This was due to a serious hacker invasion in January 2011, which caused us to remove all content, photos and videos. This also caused all unique views to reset to zero.
Currently the photos and news are online, with videos returning shortly. Videos include masquerade performances, cosplay music videos, concerts, interviews, documentaries and more. We’ve been making cosplay and convention videos since 2002 and will continue creating videos with the upcoming 2011 San Diego Comic-Con.
We truly hope that you enjoy the updated site and that it’s relatively easy to use and navigate through.
